Power and Water Plant Supervisor – Região Geográfica Intermediária de Campo Grande – Amentum

Responsibilities:

1. Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
2. Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
3. Supervises the operation, preventive maintenance and repair of the main power plant generators, backup emergency generators, on-site high voltage switchgear systems, sea water desalinization and treatment system and the activated sludge wastewater treatment plant.
4. Initiates and closes work orders, establishes priorities and delegates assigned tasks.
5. Willingness to carry a radio or pager for after hours call-outs.
6. Completes maintenance records and documents all maintenance performed and maintains operating logbooks and databases as required.
7. Ensures, to the best possible standards, uninterrupted medium voltage electrical service, water supply, and proper operation of the wastewater treatment plant through planning, scheduling, materials take-offs, executing maintenance and supervision of plant operations.
8. Assures expedient response to unplanned power outages.
9. Advises the Utilities Supervisor of the status of power production equipment and systems.
10. Keeps the on-ice Facility Engineer advised of the status of power generating, water production and wastewater treatment equipment and systems.
11. Coordinates with the on-ice Facility Engineer on issues concerning power generation, water production and wastewater plant operation.
12. Coordinates with the Utilities Supervisor to order repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts, assemblies, tools and consumables.
13. Maintains inventory to at least 95% accuracy.
14. Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly affected by this position’s work activities.
15. Provides appropriate safety training to employees and documents the training.
16. Assists Utilities Supervisor in creating and monitoring annual budgets.
17. Recruits and recommends personnel.
18. Monitors employee performance.
19. Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings.
20. Interprets project tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications and diagrams.
21. Handles confidential matters in accordance with management policy and with the highest degree of professionalism.
22. Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs.
23. May be required to work outside on various jobsites in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions.
24. Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person.
25. Participates in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.
26. Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

1. BA/BS required. Equivalent relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
2. Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience in operation and maintenance of diesel engine power plants is required.

Expected Skills and Competencies:

1. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once is required.
2. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the maintenance and repair of diesel electric generating equipment is required.
3. Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel engine driven electric generators is required.
4. Ability to maintain a professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment is required.
5. Working comprehension of electrical distribution, control panels and medium voltage switchgear.
6. Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is required, high skill level is preferred.

Preferred:

1. Previous experience with remote Polar Logistics operations is preferred.
2. Experience with desalinization plants and associated equipment, or wastewater treatment plants is preferred.
3. State issued licenses in water plants and/or wastewater treatment plants is preferred.

Physical and/or Other Requirements:

1. Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
2. Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
3. Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer.
4. Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
5. Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
6. Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out.
